What a pessimistic view of Japan. One of the most foundational rules of hypnosis is that you can't force someone to do something they don't want to do. Well, you can't sublininally message someone to commit suicide unless it's already a seed slowly growing in the back of their brain. Sono's pretty blatant that the Internet Age is a portal for an already deteriorating culture to send itself right into total oblivion.
I despise how brilliant this really is.
The characters are stereotypes but are still written very intelligently. Satō provides commentary on the typical obsessions of high school girls and dials it up a few hundred notches, creating this terrifying horror. The body horror is really well done, I gagged a little bit. Despite how torturous it was to watch this, I couldn't look away.
