A movie about a relationship between a human and AI has maybe more to say about the human condition, relationships, emotion, and love than any movie about 2 humans ever has. This near distant future encapsulates possibly one of the most human and scientific philosophical conundrums we face as we evolve as a species and through technology. As creators of these AI's, how do we relate to them? Can we form genuine bonds and relationships with them? And if we…

I was floored by this movie. My anticipation for this film has been growing ever since it was first green lit a while back. As its release came closer I feared I had placed my expectations too high and would be disappointed, or at the very least underwhelmed. It exceeded my expectations.

First of all, Hoyte Van Hoytema crushed it. Looking back at his previous work (Interstellar and Dunkirk) I should not have been surprised. There are a dozen shots…

Winona Ryder hasn't ever given a performance that I could connect with. Anytime she has had to show a lot of emotion it comes off as inauthentic. Even though there were a few moments that still felt that way, a majority of the movie she was fantastic. Mangold has always been able pull out emotional performances from his actors and this is just another example.

I chose to watch this because I saw Angelina Jolie won some awards for it…

Andrew Garfield has always felt like a "heart throb" actor that never really broke through as someone with true range. Some of his recent projects culminating with this performance have changed that perception of him for me. Forget that he performed these songs fantastically, his energy and pathos when he wasn't singing were amazing as well. Many of the supporting characters, Michael especially, delivered great performances as well.

It's hard for any musical to have every song hit for me,…

While the "Rashomon", multi-perspective format isn't new I did find it interesting how Scott made the 3 different perspectives play off each other. Damon is clearly established as the supposed protagonist at the beginning of the film. When it shifted to Driver, I assumed he would be shown as an equally honorable person, even if misguided and willfully ignorant to his actions. However, Scott went the other direction and clearly showed him as a vile and guilty man. The twist…

This has aged so well and is probably Ferrell's most underrated comedy. Wahlberg and Keaton are also terrific.
