    Whiplash

    ★★★★½

Whiplash is a movie stripped right down to the bare bones. No fat, no unnecessary filler. It's raw and real. The performances are engrossing; I never see the actor playing the character, only the character themselves. The story is tightly written to the point where you can point out the plot progression and you know when a new story beat is happening.

And do I even have to describe the music? Jazz is probably the best kind of music out there, and Whiplash feels like a sort of twisted love letter to those who won't let the good ol' days slip away.

Watched the extended cut, Spider-Man 2.1

The extended cut of Spider-Man 2 is 8 minutes longer, but it only delivers a handful of new content, and even less that's noticeable. Thankfully, it doesn't add anything that burdens the pacing or makes it worse in any way; it's mostly minor extensions to scenes and shots. It doesn't really add anything to the movie in any meaningful way, so it's really only worth watching to say that you've watched it.

However, I will say it's worth it to see the infamous scene of J.J. in the Spider-Man costume.

I glad that they didn't make a bloated, overblown "finale" type of finale; they made an episode of The IT Crowd, and that's the best thing they could have done.

    Doc Brown Saves the World

    ★★★★

It's great fun seeing Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown once again, waving his arms frantically while spouting off quantum science jargon. However, it seems like he doesn't have the energy he once had, and that he's overacting with more energy than his character usually has. I understand that he's getting old (heck, he's about as old as he was in the movies or older!), so I'll give him some slack. Other than that, it's funny, and very much in the same vein as the movies.
