    20th Century Women

Annette Bening dances to Black Flag and "art fags" Talking Heads to try and understand her teenage son better. What more can you ask for?

In all seriousness though, 20th Century Women is one of the most important films of the year. It's infused with such life and humanity - the characters in this feel like people you know and not just actors on screen. The temporary family that is formed goes to show that it take a lot more…

This felt so fresh and new; Janicza Bravo is a talent and her unique approach here was really rewarding to watch. Fantastic performances, sharp sound design, and a quirky—yet totally fitting—score from Mica Levi makes this a blast to sit through. Would love to revisit this in a double feature alongside Spring Breakers!

    Don't Look Up

Typical McKay editing that makes me want to just curl up and die. It’s such a mess that it nearly makes Vice look competent. So many interwoven clips that, honestly, half the time feel completely irrelevant. It’s generally just such an ugly, plasticky-looking film… cheap across the board.

What makes this movie interesting is the cast and the choices they all make in terms of their performances—Lawrence is especially good and there is solid ensemble work from almost everyone here,…
