You know, I wasn't even going to go to see this as part of The Belcourt's heist series originally. I'd seen it in theaters, after all. But I saw a trailer at one of the other screenings and was tempted, so I redeemed my ticket. I'm so glad I did.

Three things stood out most to me. One I'm sure I noticed at the time but had since forgotten is how good the action is. Not surprising with Nolan, but…

In 8 1/2 Daumier asks Guido the following after reading a script for his film: "What monstrous presumption to think that others could benefit from the squalid catalog of your mistakes. What do you gain by stringing together the tattered pieces of your life, your vague memories, the faces of those you could never love?" 12 years later, Tarkovsky made the exact film described by Daumier.

You know, I think I really liked this. I wasn't expecting to; biopics aren't usually my thing and a British costume drama, to boot. But honestly, the costumes and makeup that went into making Stewart INTO Diana were pretty incredible. As was the performance that ties it all together. I still can't really place what exactly made it all click, though, but maybe it's that Larrain's slightly off-kilter take feels like it captures what the life of a royal must be like.

    Seen at Nashville Film Festival.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

It's an interesting look at life on the street, I suppose, but there is something that feels very exploitative about shooting an addict who may not really know what's going on and moreover, buying him drugs for the privilege of doing so. The whole thing felt unethical to me.
