Halloween III: Season of the Witch

This is one of my all-time favorite B horror films. Carpenter wanted to move away from Michael Myers and create an annual anthology series of stories that take place on Halloween night. This was meant to be the first of these. Alas, this tanked so the idea was scrapped, with Myers returning in Halloween IV a few years later. However, this film is a hidden gem. It's got a twisted plot that comments on capitalism as much as it does…

Such a vibe, immersive and laid back. Heard it mentioned in comparison to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in terms of vibe on a podcast and that is apt, but in a PTA way. Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim are both great. I didn’t want this to end, and can’t wait to watch it again. Favorite new film I’ve seen in a spell!

This was special as it was my 11-year-old son’s first time watching one of my favorite all-time films, and was also his first proper horror film full stop. I knew he dug it when he turned to me and said β€œThis is like a creepy movie version of Among Us.”

Hello, Mary Lou! Where have you been all of my life? I have no idea how I somehow missed seeing this film back in my late '80s video rental store trawling days. Perhaps I figured a (supposed) sequel to the relatively plodding original Prom Night wasn't worth the precious few dollars I could scrape together as a 13-year-old to rent movies. Boy…

I went into this film completely blind, having only the poster for reference. It's definitely the best way to experience it. I won't spoil any of the genre-hopping surprises except to say that I appreciated and enjoyed the film's unpredictability and small scale. There are a few "Whoa!" moments for sure and some very funny instances of very dark humor. Any fan of the gritty '70s grindhouse vibe, which this films taps into, will find…
