Will watch literally anything but if it has a 70s folk music soundtrack or is a Czech film about fairytales, I will probably love it.

Not quite as engaging or interesting as other Wes Anderson films but still wonderfully beautiful, odd, witty and heartwarming. "Was he a good dog?" "Who's to say?"

The first and last five minutes, as well as the reading of the inscription the title refers to were interesting but everything else lacked insight and was dull as ditchwater.

There were moments of absolute beauty in this. The waking up scenes every morning, the poems, the bus rides and the beautiful waterfall. But I can't say I was totally convinced by this in the way I think I was meant to be. The main relationship sometimes rang a bit hollow for me and the ending waterfall scene felt rather silly and mystical given how the rest of the film had been grounded in everyday life. Still a beautiful, quiet film that showed a simple but deeply creative and purposeful life.

Best moment in this was the King's furious, desperate gaze into the eyes of General Outram and the British translator, who were ashamed enough to avert their eyes but not to stop their takeover.
