Not a fan. Adam Sandler is kind of a dick in much of the movie. And the girl... her characterization doesn't check out to me. And it's really weird that none of the main cast are Hawaiian given that the movie takes place in Hawaii and has the main characters all be residents of Hawaii. Also transphobia and other problematic stuff. The movie has some sweet elements, but overall it's just kinda creepy and not fully thought-out.
Movies like this make me glad I'm seeing all the animated movies submitted for an Oscar last year. This movie has heart. It doesn't always pull everything off as well as it could, but fuck if it doesn't try. And it succeeds generally. You've got horror and friendship and loss and monsters and so much more and it all comes together in a really good movie with a unique style of animation.
