A poignant reflection on fatherly love, and sacrificial optimism set amidst the horrors of war. Some consider the setting of the film to be in poor taste, but it is the juxtaposition of good and evil which allows Guido's love for his wife and son to shine. A truly devastating tragicomedy, marked with flashes of hope.
